What To Cook/Bake?

I think it has been a while since I last attempted something adventurous in the kitchen on weekends. It has been bugging me for weeks already now, in fact.

I think I really should attempt something this weekend.

What should I do? Let me watch some videos for inspiration.

No, no nooooo… no cakes, noooo!!!

Shrimps look good, but I don’t think it is very adventurous is it?

I had a good laugh watching this. Cooking in a hotel room with only a kettle and a hairdryer. But, not relevant for me. At least not now. πŸ™„

Hmm, nice… but… I don’t think I can get those special sausages… πŸ™„

Hmm, nice tips!

Gawd I miss Shepherd’s Pie. But I’ve attempted it before, so it isn’t adventurous. Hmm…

This one looks promising. No, wait… wine? Okay, probably not…

Ooo… fish pie! I remember the last time I attempted a fish pie, I used fish that had gone bad, and it in turn gave me bad tummy.

Hmm… Arghhh!!! I’m still undecided what to make this weekend! >.<

  1. This video of cooking from hotel room is hilarious! I have heard from my Japanese roomate that he cooked instant ramen inside the kettle and used hairdryer to blow-cook the raw egg thrown into the ramen! How clever ya?

    • I would not be surprised that Japanese would do that. They are well known for being minimalists too. Make do with whatever they have! πŸ˜€

  2. Have you come across any of those sites where you type in the ingredients you have at home and the site searches recipes that match? I just posted today a picture of Gambas al Ajillo (like your video above). I wouldn’t mind a pot of those again right now.

    • I never thought of websites that do that. If I have a random mix of leftover ingredients, I will just chuck them all into the pan/oven with some seasoning and be done with. πŸ˜€

  3. Why not cook something with what you currently got? That will be a challenge. Unless you have absolutely nothing.

    • I had a tub of butter and half a bottle of mustard sauce in the fridge at time of writing. πŸ™„

  4. Aiya, you bluff me with the photo of the cake despite what the title of your post says. I thought you baked that slice of cake – wah, I was saying to myself, looks good, can change career to open a bakery selling cakes since cakes are so expensive nowadays. Then I read on and ceh, you are having a cheat day! Just post link to a bunch of yummy food cooking tutorials with some captions and call it a post. Smart, very smart – which I know already you are smart. A good post that tempts people to click to look at the delicious food videos. Good cheat! Hahaha!

    • I’m trying to encourage people to like cooking. To me, cooking your own food from fresh is more important than going vegan or the likes. πŸ™„

      • Better still plant your own vegetables and rear your own animals and fish for meat like Submerryn lah. Buy from supermarket, the fresh food also where got fresh – harvest or killed dunno how many days ago. πŸ™„

        • Aiyo, you are same like Mabel. I think you can be twins, at least the brain part. Picking at my words huh… When people talk about cooking from fresh here it means cooking from scratch and being in control of what you use, what you put in yourself. Self control = no MSG overload, no using rotten expired ingredients, no unwashed and pesticide laden veggies, etc.

Planting own veggies, in city, especially in apartment… while maintaining full time job and part time freelancing… πŸ™„

  5. I am not going to watch all of these videos. Just by looking at them I already want to eat πŸ™„

Just make something. Anything. Worse comes to worse and you cannot decide, just close your eyes and click on a random YouTube video. Or put on a blindfold and grab things out of the fridge and cupboard and them make some dish out of all that πŸ™„

  6. Couscous, huh? πŸ˜› If you intend to bake, but would like to stay away from cakes, do give quiche a go. If you want a simple dish for cooking, maybe spaghetti bolognaise or lasagna? =)

    • Quiche huh… But the quiches that I have ever eaten are full of onions and leeks and celery and whatnot. Not a huge fan of those things. πŸ™„
