Barney Stinson

Yay, it’s Friday! And Friday means me taking a break from Europe blogging for the weekend.

I’m quite dismayed that there are quite a few here who do not know who Barney Stinson is, and even more who misses Barney’s awesomeness.

I think I’ve talked about this awesome guy before, but only on the side and maybe some did not bother. So today I will be in-your-face and make this blog post exclusively about him. This way, you will be forced to be introduced to him. That is if you read blogs over the weekend.

Barney is one of the main characters in the highly popular American sitcom How I Met Your Mother (HIMYM). He is a serial womanizer who prefers awesome to mediocre, always wears a suit (even when sleeping), and is a legendary person. He is also the main reason why I’m a HIMYM fan.

Ironically, he is played by Neil Patrick Harris. Neil, serial womanizer, and he did a damn good job portraying the character.

You know what? Let’s have the videos. If you have to go back to the office to pretend to work on a Saturday, then maybe these videos will help you have a better time πŸ˜‰ . These are all clips

I saved my favorite for the last…

Bonus clip:

Enjoy your weekend, folks! And remember… nothing, and everything, is possimpoble! πŸ˜‰

  1. I watched the first 5 seasons of HIMYM when I was living in Shanghai in 2010 because my flatmate had the dvds, but then I stopped. I liked it, hehe. But I heard the story went downhill and I got busy with other series and didn’t keep watching…

    • I thought so too. I have not watched season 4 – 7, but I thought 8 was a bit stale. I guess this is a series that overstayed their success. But Barney is still awesome! πŸ˜€

  2. Love, love, love, Barney Stinson and like you, he is the reason I watch HIMYM. Well, I dropped off around the fifth season because I felt the storyline really went pear shaped. I really like how he has a good relationship with his suits – was just watching the suits song last night πŸ™„

What about Neil Patrick Harris himself? Are you much of a fan of the guy?

I almost forgot to read your blog today. Came home late, and felt something was amiss πŸ˜€

    • I actually watched HIMYM when I was in the US for 2 months. I watched Season 1 – 3, then because time was running out, I skipped straight to Season 8. At that time it was the latest season πŸ™„ … But you should really watch Season 9. That’s where the Mother really appears. πŸ˜›

I like Neil’s opening acts on those award shows. But I am afraid to watch his other movies/drama series works. After Gone Girl, I was really traumatized. I cannot see him in any other image than Barney now. πŸ™

      • The part where the Mother comes into picture was the most boring for me. I felt that the Mother character and all the other potential Mothers didn’t gel well with the storyline. I skipped straight to the ending when the last season concluded πŸ˜€

Agree on that. I feel he is a much stronger performer on the stage than in films :/ I would suggest a Barney Stinson TV series, but you know, you can overdo things like that.

        • And in the end, the Mother was… let’s just say it was a really WTF ending to the series and I am with most of the fans who are foaming! πŸ™„

I think it is best to leave it as it is. Barney is awesome now. If they did a Barney series, might mess things up. (Barney: What is that supposed to mean? How can you get too much awesome?!)

          • I liked the ending and thought it tied back to what was said in the first couple of episodes. It probably was more of a series about finding love as opposed to finding out who the Mother was. But I really didn’t like it how the storyline was dragged out for so long.

There is never too much awesome. Try telling that to Barney πŸ™„

            • I understand your point, but I guess I’m with most of the fickle minded fans, I felt it was a gross injustice to the Mother πŸ™ …

  3. Without Barney Stinson, HIMYM would not be awesome. He’s the reason I watched the series. I’ll have to agree with you that I can’t see Neil Patrick Harris as anyone except Barney. He had a role in one episode of Law and Order as a psychopath and it didn’t sit well with me >.<

    • Any other shows that has Barney as a psychopath would traumatize me again for weeks, so now I practice caution in selecting his shows to watch. 😐

  4. Eh, what am I doing here? I usually don’t read blogs on weekends but I then saw your post title and I couldn’t resist…but I’ll save the watching of the videos for later (on weekdays)! πŸ˜€

Like you, I’ve never watched Doogie Howser so NPH will forever be the awesome Barney Stinson to me! πŸ˜‰ That scene in Gone Girl was difficult to watch.

  5. I really know nothing about Barney Stinson, but Neil Patrick Harris is a great actor, I watched him in The Smurf. So good looking.

  6. Oh Barney Stinson!! Loved the show but I cant get myself to watch it a second time for unknown reasons. In my bookshelf I got actually Barneys “The Playbook” and “The Bro Code” πŸ˜€

  7. Mr Bean is “a child in a grown man’s body”. Bean rarely speaks, and the largely physical humour of the series is derived from his interactions with other people and his unusual solutions to situations. I like.

  8. To me, he is and always will be Doogie Howser, M. D.

I cannot watch HIMYM because everytime I tried to watch it, I will be like, eh, what is Doogie Howser doing in this show. The brain just wouldn’t accept him as Barney.

    • I’m the opposite. I never watched Doogie Howser, so to me, he will always be Barney. Same lah, when I watched him play the psychopath in Gone Girl, I was so distressed. πŸ™
