Let me show you what else I bought from my last grocery run. I bought quite a few new items this round…
I bought this:
I don’t know. I saw an auntie took 5 packs of these, so I thought, it must be some good stuff, so I took one as well.
Turns out, it is just de-shelled and de-veined shrimps and a sachet of lemon herbs seasoning. The packaging said 20 shrimps, I counted 22. As it is quite expensive (RM 16.90), I decided to ration them. I’ll cook 11 today and save another 11 for tomorrow.
The instructions say mix seasoning with 80ml of water. Since I am using half, I mixed it with what I think is 40 ml of water. There’s rosemary and thyme and all sorts of other things in the sachet. Yikes!
The instructions also say to stir fry the shrimps for 2 minutes, then pour the seasoning mixture in and cook until liquid is reduced to half.
Problem is, I also need my quota of veggies. So I ended up stir frying my veggies for 2 minutes first, then added the shrimps and cook for another 2 minutes, then added the seasoning mixture in. The veggie releases water too, so the water ratio is kind of off balance. So to balance out the flavors, I squeeze half a lemon’s worth of juice and added half a tablespoon of soy sauce into the wok as well. Then I basically cooked until the food seems cooked and the sauce tastes somewhat okay to me.
I’m going to eat them with rice after I post this up. I tasted the gravy, it’s good.
I guess I can’t tell you if this pack of shrimps by itself is any good, since I added my own stuff in.
But I don’t really care. I don’t think I will buy this again. If I buy just the shrimps from the seafood section, 22 de-shelled shrimps is probably 250g worth of shrimps. Coincidentally, this pack of shrimps is 250g. AEON sells de-shelled shrimps (isi udang) at RM 3.90/100g, so 250g would be RM 9.75.
This means I’m paying RM 7.15 for a sachet of seasoning with rosemary and thyme (yikes) and fancy packaging.
Nah… Won’t do it again…
