Epic Meal Time

I m feeling under the weather today quite literally, for I have finally succumbed to the haze. It is Haze 1 – 0 RealGunners.

Actually, that’s not exactly true. This isn’t the first time I fall sick due to shit weather. If we want to be accurate, it is probably more like Haze 50 – 0 RealGunners. Or Haze 100 – 0 RealGunners.

I know, you’re probably going to tell me to drink more water, get more rest, yadda yadda… the thing is, I have been drinking LOTS of water and getting 8 hours sleep a day, every day. I guess sometimes you just can’t win and the body needs to fall sick as sort of a detox mechanism. I believe the side effects of falling sick are actually the body’s way of drastically releasing all those bad stuff out.

Anyway, the point is, I don’t feel like writing much today. So I’ll just share some videos to you guys.

You might think that my inspiration in home cooking comes mostly from FoodTube, from Jamie Oliver and his team. And, I know, I mostly try to cook healthy meals most of the time, but the truth is, the first bunch of cooking videos that made me feel excited about cooking are Epic Meal Time videos. I think I have mentioned this cooking show a few times before in my other blog posts, but today I am going to write exclusively about them.

For those of you who do not know what the heck Epic Meal Time is, it is basically a Canadian Youtube cooking channel hosted by the epic douchebag Harley Morenstein (an ex-high school teacher) and his friends. The show focuses on creating extremely high calorie meals that would make Man vs Food look like child play.

By the way, it’s 1st of July in Canada now. Happy Canada Day to all the Canadians out there… πŸ˜‰

Bacon strips and Jack Daniels whiskey are featured prominently in their recipes, and vegetables are religiously scorned upon.

And when meal is done, they eat it in very manly ways…

This is NOT a cooking show for vegans and health conscious people.

I know, most of you would go “Ew! Gross!!!” when you see how they cook, but come on, I believe it is 99% of guys’ (and probably some girls) ultimate dream to be able to feast on the stuff that they cook with reckless abandon. But we know we can’t, so watching some Canadian jackassesΒ do it is the next best thing.

Well, here’sΒ a list of my absolute favorites, the best of the best of Epic Meal Time videos based on my personal preference, in no particular order. I placed the one where they did a collaboration (sort of) with Jamie Oliver on top, because I think ifΒ it is the first time you watch these guys, you need to transition into it to minimize the shock.

Okay… if you feel 6 videos are too many, just watch the first 3. They’re probably the 3 I like slightly more, just slightly…

The truth is, I’m sick, so I’m eating bland and tasteless rice noodles soup for dinner tonight. I’m watching these videos and imagining myself to be eating bacon burgers instead to make the ordeal less of an ordeal…

  1. hah..hah..hah…I watched all 6 videos and it is hilarious πŸ˜€ That guy is funny with his deadpan expression and the way he talks. So generally speaking, what they do is take burgers as their ingredients and mix it bacon, cheese etc and bake it like a huge pie or whatever. I like burgers but not like that hah..hah.. I find it amazing that those guys can eat their weird concoction.

Hope you are feeling better πŸ™‚

    • Well, they once did an interview and admitted that those recipes are not just random weird concoctions, and that they actually researched all the recipes to ensure that they are safe for consumption. It is just how they present the videos that makes them so funny πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

  2. I watched all your videos and even repeated the grossly scenes that made my guts turn!!
Those glutton looked like graduates from Fear Factor events who could swallow anything. Thanks for sharing that such chefs exist! They are loud and bold like you, so you would see no harm eating their food. It’s all in our mind to eat food in small bites, normal servings or mega sized. They just looked different in presentations.
    Get well soon baby.

    • That’s what set them apart from normal cooking shows, that loud, rude, in-your-face style of declaring “Meat is delicious, fuck the vegetables!”. It’s what makes so many people happy watching them! πŸ˜€

  3. im sick too….due to the shitty weather….I’ve watched similar video before (of some people challenging themselves to finish off a huge portion of food)! It only tempted me to eat like them.

    • This show, the fun part is their cooking process, and the amount of profanity they use when talking. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

  4. I do like my bacon….but not like this!!! I watched a few of those videos and it’s gross! I think it has a reverse effect…good for those who wants to go on a diet…seeing this will turn you off bacon! πŸ˜€ Poor McD!

    • Hahaha yes! You are the first one who actually comment about the videos! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

No leh, watching those videos make me excited like a little kid! Wahahahha! XD

    • Coconut water cannot lah, got cough and running nose, coconut water will make it worse…

Haih, as expected, no one commented about the videos at all… 😐

  5. Aiya, don’t worry, I’m not those people who will ask you to drink more water, eat more Vitamin C, don’t go out so much one la.. Unless gf or newly paktor punyer, then sure the girl will say these things to you la, hehe.. I’m also having bad flu and sore throat, but I still eat fried stuffs, huhu.. Grown ups liao, don’t care so much liao.. If kids, yes.. Must take care, this cannot eat, that cannot eat.. Cough+phlegm cannot eat bananas, oranges, bla bla..

  6. Watching these will make you feel better but I know of people when they are sick, they will go and eat these sort of food – bacon, cheese, egg, pork patties burgers – they want to use poison to fight poison (yi tok kong tok).

    • That’s just wishful thinking, I can’t believe there are people who will really do that!

  7. haha, and this is a classic example of what the Chinese say “looking at the plum go quench the thirst”.. sometimes when I’m under the weather, and nice good comes, I also “bochap” eat first and worry later πŸ˜€

    • Yes!! That’s the idea! Watch the plum to quench the thirst, or in this case, watch the bacon to douse the craving! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€
