1P100W #10 – Ipoh

DSC_0011 (1024x622)

I was planning to head into Ipoh* to hunt for dinner noms before coming back to Penang. But I discovered that my mobile data has exceeded monthly limit. This means I cannot use Waze, which in turn means I will get lost if I proceed with the plan.

So instead of showing you many photos of touristy Ipoh, I have only this photo to show. There are many landmarks that reminds people of Ipoh. To me, this landscape does the trick. Seeing these hills means I have entered Ipoh territory.

And, one of these days, this photo will land me into trouble for dangerous driving.

*Additional info for the international readers: Ipoh is the capital city of the state of Perak. It is about the halfway point between Kuala Lumpur and Penang. It has also got great food and great sightseeing opportunities. I’ll show you next time.

  1. No mobile data is the worst. Here in Australia if you exceed mobile data for the month, you can pay $10 to top up 1GB. Pricey.

Well CL, if I remember correctly this is not the first time you’ve shown us a shot you took while driving. Got skill still.

    • We can do that here too, pay extra to get another GB. But I am only 3 days away from monthly refresh, and I am being cheap, so… yeah. 😛

You have really been paying attention! Now that you mentioned… I guess I will have more trouble if and when it comes then 😀

      • Nah, I think it’s more of the fact that I have a pretty good memory! Won’t be suprised if I see another like this…I’m sure you’ll do all in your power to stay safe on the roads since crashing a car is very expensive 😀

        • You know what, you’re right. I was at my most alert when I was trying to take pictures when driving. I think the likelihood of me dozing off and crash while driving normally is higher! 😀

  2. I hear and see on Claire’s blog that there’s so much good food to be had in Ipoh. And it’s cheap too. Don’t know when I can make a trip there. I am sure you will have other opportunities to go to Ipoh, eat and tell us all about it 🙂

    • I’ve had countless opportunities to do that over the past 7 years, but I did not do it too. These things can only happen when you feel inspired. 😛

  3. You commute frequently between Penang and KL, so you’ll get other chances in future I’m sure. Just check out motormouth from Ipoh and you’ll know where all the good eats are! ;D

  4. Been to Ipoh only once, on the way to Pg for company’s annual dinner.. I only know the famous chicken rice and steamed herbal chicken, and ooooo those biscuits like chicken biscuits, kaya puffs and sat kei ma..

  5. Been years since I was on the road to Ipoh – once…and another time, on the way to Cameron. My good friend in KL, Mandy, took me on those trips both times…

    • It’s indeed sad, but that’s the livelihood of so many of the older generation. Hope things will improve.

    • Probably not the same. Mine was captured right as I passed by the Simpang Pulai R&R.

I know that huge IPOH sign, but in my brain, the idea is once we crossed the Simpang Pulai R&R, we cross the Ipoh proper territory.

  6. you should have contacted the Ipoh Food Mayor earlier and then you won’t need any GPS but she will bring you to eat the best food and desserts in Ipoh!! :p
