That Other Thing That I Bought

I’m not sure if you remember reading about how I only paid RM 8 (~$3) for my water heater unit and another mysterious item.

MysteriousItem

Well, the mysterious item has arrived! I was called last night to go and collect it from the shop. As I was going grocery shopping today, I went and picked it up along with my grocery bag.

This is the mysterious item:

A stand bowl mixer by Faber!

I have not decided whether this will be one of the smarter purchases that I made, or the more stupid ones. All I remember was that when I was told that I can redeem another RM 120 from the shop, I acted without thinking straight, again. I was still reeling from the failed blueberry cheesecake attempt, and the idea of getting some enhanced power to help me successfully bake a cake was a pretty great idea at that time.

It doesn’t feel like such a great idea now. I acted on impulse, and I’m kind of feeling a tinge of regret now..

The other day, I was having lunch with some friends, and one of them said that I’m a stupid fool for wasting my time cooking and baking and blogging about them. She said I should focus on more manly things, like getting a girlfriend. Blogging about baking cakes and cooking simple meals will not help me achieve that. And I think she is kind of right. Ouch! 🙁

Okay, maybe I should focus on the positives. I think buying a mixer set like this is better than buying those standalone mixer without the holder and bowl. With this guy, you can still detach the mixer and use it as a standalone. And it is cheaper than a standalone mixer. I have not figured out why is that.

There’s another thing that I have not figured out. There is this screw driver like piece of thing included in the box. I think it is another thing that we can attach to the mixer, but I have no idea what this thing does. Do we use it to whisk things up as well? Or does it do something else?

At this point, if you think that I will surprise you by revealing a cake that I successfully baked, I am sorry to disappoint you. I did not buy any ingredients for cake baking. In fact, I am not even sure if I want to use it. I have packed it nicely back into the box and tucked it away in a visible corner.

Maybe I should use it in a way that can help me win girls. Give it as a gift to a girl? But then, chances are the girl has less culinary skills than I do. To make matters worse, she might think that I expect her to cook and bake for me. That would not be good for building good impression.

Maybe I can do another round of freebie giveaway for the blog? But then, the actual price of this guy is RM 128. It feels a bit expensive for me to give it out for free. And what event do I conduct? Whoever that bakes the nicest cake and blog about it wins? That’s not gonna work. Whoever that can bake a cake as it is won’t need this mixer, whoever who cannot bake a cake will probably be not interested with this mixer.

Maybe I can sell it in Mudah.my? But… it doesn’t feel right. I just bought something brand new from the shop, and then immediately sell it for a loss. That sounds pretty stupid to me.

Tsk tsk tsk… maybe I should just leave it alone for awhile and not think about it…

Oh right, the other day Mun asked me to snap a picture of fu kwai choy for her. I saw it again today, here we go:

It looks just like those sawi/choy sum, but they are slightly smaller, and the leaves has more threads and are more wrinkled.

  1. Aw, I think you’re being too harsh on yourself! With all your cooking and baking skills when you do find a girl at least you’ll be able to impress her with lovely homemade dinners and freshly baked cakes! They do say that the fastest way to a woman’s heart is through her stomach!

    • What? I’ve never heard people say that. I thought it was always man instead of woman, as in: the fastest way to a man’s heart is through his stomach! 😀

  2. baking is good, it relieves stress and at the same time can help u woo girls..haha! ermmm….perhaps u can bake some X’mas cookies or cakes for this coming festive season?

  3. OMG, don’t ever believe what your friend said. =O I’m sure cooking and blogging about it is one of your passions, right? The right girl will come into your life at the right time, don’t worry. Some girls like guys who can cook and surprise them with homemade dinners. It’s little things like this that are important. ^^ Like what Phong Hong wrote, don’t give it away. You’ll soon discover that baking can be a stress reliever at times. =)

Before I head off on a tangent from what I was supposed to write as a reply, I have two kitchen mixers… and truth be told, both comes in handy during different situations. *winks*

P.S. I think I have eaten that fu kwai choy before, hehe. But yeah, what made you choose the electric mixer, though?

    • I don’t know what made me choose it myself. Probably because of the price being close to RM 120, and because I was still riled up about baking cake 🙄

  4. Wut? Of all the items, why did you pick the electric mixer leh? Ok unless you like baking and you bake very well (I dunno la, maybe you are good in baking), then ok la… But if not, aiyoh, wasted leh.. Should have chosen other stuffs like rice cooker or breadmaker.. Rice cooker can do many things leh, boil rice boil soup and even bake a cake.. Yes, bake cakes in a rice cooker..But anyway, already bought, just use lor.. I have a mixer at home, but no use it, lazy to wash and all, so I just whisk everything using a fork, teehee 🙂

    • When I bought that, my thinking was, the electric mixer will help me become someone who bake very well. Hahaha! 😀 .. Those good rice cooker expensive leh, I was looking for something around the price of RM 120, then this one fell into that category.. maybe it was fated 🙄

  5. Hmmmm…bet there will be some cake posts coming up sooner or later…despite your saying that it will not happen but if you’re sure you are not going to put it to good use, you can always mail it over for my Christmas present. Wink! Wink!

  6. Since you got it, I think you should use it to bake a delicious cake. Make it worth your while getting it. I agree with the others here that some girls like guys who know how to bake cakes, muffins, cup cakes and etc.

    • LOL! I didn’t expect such a backlash of comments regarding this. My friend is probably just joking. I personally don’t think cooking or not will affect girlfriend getting rates. My problem is, I have not been actively girlfriend hunting at all. 😀

  7. Don’t be so hard of yourself! I think a lot of men like to cook. My husband enjoys cooking as well and a lot of famous chefs are male!! Plus, you can make a 3-course dinner for your future girlfriend. And I would love to have a mixer like that. I like to bake and I use a manual mixer which definitely gives my arm a workout.

    • I don’t mind the workout part, the problem is, I’m a rather impatient person, if I whisk things by hand, I always rush things before they are really ready 😐

  8. No way! Your friend is so wrong. Women love men who can cook! And… you write so well. I always smile when I read your posts. Don’t listen to that one. Follow your passions!

    • *Blush* Thanks for your compliments on my writing!
Fret not, there is one thing that I am very good at, and that’s being a stubborn bastard who does not listen to what other people say 😀

    • I don’t really count cooking as something that I like doing, it is more like something that I have to do, so I try to make doing it as interesting as I can.

  9. Ahhhhh!!!! You bought a stand mixer!!!! I have the exact same one too 🙂 That screwdriver thingy is a bread hook – to knead bread dough. DO NOT give away that mixer! Use it! Bake! And I am sorry to say that I DO NOT agree with that girl who said you should focus on manly things and get a girlfriend instead. I mean when the time comes and if it is fated, that girl will come into your life. Meantime, continue with cooking and baking. Who says cooking and baking is not manly, huh? Who are the great chefs, huh? You know, girls are very impressed with guys who can cook and more so one that can bake. Trust me!

    • Hahaha! You seem rather agitated! Don’t worry, I won’t give up cooking 😛
Oh, so that’s a bread hook. Means I can also try making bread now? Oh gosh..

    • Aww.. I’m sure you can find space, this one is pretty small. And it should be cheap, you can probably get it for like $20 or $30 in Walmart?

      • my kitchen space fits literally one microwave, 2 small fires on a kitchen stove, one small sink and a dish rack – I have to cut things in front of microwave because there’s no more space, I had to buy an extra moving shelf in IKEA to put a rice cooker so trust me – there is literally no space for it T___T

        • That sounds… really small. Look on the bright side. You get to practice living in small space before moving back to HK for good 😉
