Souvenir

I was forced to tidy up my cubicle today, and noticed some objects that has been set on one side and ignored for long.

Souvenirs
Souvenirs from colleagues/ex-colleagues

If you ask me right now: Who gave you these? / When were they given to you? / Whence did these come from? , I will only be able to stare at you with a blank face, and then turn around and give you a backwards glance and a silly smile.

现在你们可相信了吧?I once left such a comment in someone’s (forgot which someone) blog: When it comes to handling souvenirs, I am a super bastard. Do you believe me now?

There is one particular item though, that I still maintain a deep impression of.

A long piece of thing

This long piece of thing was actually given to me by an intern girl on her last day quite a while ago. Inside is actually a stick of Toblerone chocolate. Since it was so nicely wrapped, I hesitated to eat it, so I wrapped it back up and left it on my desk. It is strange though, after so many years, there’s not even half an ant that came nearby.

There’s even a tiny message inside the little envelope

The story with the fengshui place was that, on the week that the intern girl was leaving, my office was being renovated and our seats were reshuffled. As the saying goes, the early bird gets the worm. I was the first person to approach our admin to book the best cubicle. By best cubicle, I mean the cubicle with my back facing a wall, and a big cabinet in front blocking the bosses’ line of sight. The cubicle with the best privacy was my cubicle 😀 .

    • I’m surprised so many of you are surprised by my dual language. I do it occasionally, but I guess this is the first time I’m doing it since migrating to personal domain.
You still got make an effort to hang the keychains. I just ditch them on top of my PC desktop if I got them in the office, or ditch them in a cookie box at home if I got them elsewhere 😀 .

    • I seorang-seorang ma, that’s why early bird without the s lah 😛 . The chocolate is still in the wrapping, sitting on my desk right now 😛

      • wow…u kept that chocolate for years?? I think I wouldn’t dare to open the wrapper now. I usually consume any food given by others immediately or within a few days later..coz the more I kept it will soon be forgotten and gone wasted. Yea, my motto: Don’t waste food.

        • I usually eat them immediately too. Actually this one, I think I just kind of forgot that it is chocolate after a few days, then remember it after very many days 😀

    • Recently we all do that way lah, buy chocolates or candy, then call everyone out for dinner and distribute and makan it on the spot 😀

  1. Me too.. my keychains given by colleagues are still kept in my drawer, some I can remember who gave and there are some which drew a blank face from me too! My bad… but I really appreciate them, that shows we are in their thoughts when they went for trips… I have lots of personal stuff to pack from now on, need boxes after working here for so long and going to retire soon! 🙂

  2. yeah, I have all those keychains you have, and I guess many do.. especially thst koala bear keychain, like it’s a must for everyone who went to Australia to bring a bagful home, haha!! but then it’s the thoughts if we are given one lah.. 😀

  3. So many years already, still edible? Back against the wall is good – solid support…no beam above your head, I hope…and better shift that cabinet in front – that will block the good feng shui. Move it…and you will go forward and take the boss’ place soon. Hehehehe!!!!

    • Hahaha, I don’t care about the real feng shui stuff. For me, blocking the boss and everyone else from seeing me Facebook-ing = good feng shui 😀

  4. Wah now blog in both Chinese and English jor ahh..Eh kam ngam, I have similarsouvenirs hanging here on my workatation too.. Maybe one day I will blog about souvenirs at my workstation too, haha.. Eh so is that chocolate still edible? Or you plan to just throw it away? By the way, so nice la your mgt, let you all choose your own cubicle, so nice..

    • Saja felt like doing dual language today, it’s not going to be a frequent thing.
Supposingly the admin will randomly assign, just that I took proactive action and approached her to “book” the place before she assigned.
I can’t wait to see what souvenirs you have at your workstation 😀

  5. I love picking up souvenirs from myself from my own travels, but have to agree that when it comes to receiving souvenirs from others I can barely remember where they’re from! Glad you have special memories attached to one of them though 🙂

  6. I was wondering about the message on the card – what does it mean – and lucky for me, you explained it at the end of your post. Wah, they let you all choose cubicles like that – first come first serve. So nice! Last time for us, the bosses decide.

So do you think that toblerone can still be eaten now?
